Sitting here in rural Præstø, Denmark, having some coffee with our friend and host M.C. Hansen, and there is so much to write I’m not sure where to start. I guess I’ll keep it as short as possible and start at the beginning.
We left Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon for Charlotte, and then London, and remarkably no flights have yet been delayed (knock on wood).
We arrived at London Heathrow (LHR) at 8:30am their time– 3:30am Pittsburgh time. So that was weird. LHR is a city. It took us awhile, but eventually we found our way to the shuttle bus to our quaint little motel, the Heathrow Lodge. We just had one night there before heading to Denmark, so we got the cheapest airport motel we could find, and figured it would be pretty industrial and ugly, but the memorable experiences started right away. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend 20 hours adjusting to the time zone. Here are some photos from the area we stayed that night:
Pretty nice for 35 pounds a night!
So the bus came to take us back to LHR at 3:51am, and we hopped on a plane to Copenhagen, Denmark. Smooth sailing again– though we had a little scare with our guitars (we thought they lost them, but it turned out we just didn’t read a really obvious sign). We bought our train ticket south to Næstved, where M.C. picked us up and drove us to his and his wife Carina’s beautiful home in Præstø. Shortly after, we headed to our first show, a beautiful outdoor concert hosted by M.C.’s wonderful hippy friends Soren Korshoj and Annen Grete Kamilles. We couldn’t have asked for a better first show of this tour. The people were wonderful, the scenery was breathtaking, and M.C. and his band sounded incredible.
Oh, and did we mention that M.C. and Carina have a dog named LOUIE??? Seriously.
Sidenote on M.C. and Carina: they had tried to have a baby for 8 years, and finally decided to adopt. After the wait period, when their paperwork finally went through, Carina got pregnant. How about that?
More posts soon!
